WETTING THE LENS SURFACE
The lens must have a wettable surface
when placed on the eye if it is to be
comfortable. Often diagnostic lenses
are stored dry so using a wetting
(conditioning) solution on the lens
prior to placement is important.
Place a drop of the solution on the
lens and rub the surface. If you are
going to view the fluorescein pattern
after placing the lens on the eye,
rinse the majority of the wetting
solution off with saline. If you do
not, the viscous solution with cause the fluorescein to coat the lens surface making it difficult to evaluate the fluorescein under the lens.
